IDRIVE REVIEWS 2014 SOFTWARE
CONSĪll timings by the software use PST (Pacific Standard Time) and a US format timestamp.

During the testing phase I contacted customer support with a relatively trivial query (see comment below re timestamps) and got a prompt answer - that was reassuring. They also run if the machine is sleeping - waking, backing up and sleeping again. Scheduled backups run as expected, or as soon as the machine is turned on. I've used it to backup about half a terabyte of data so far, with more to be uploaded. I was sufficiently impressed to purchase the software. Initial testing showed that everything worked pretty much as expected 'out of the box' and that backups could be easily restored. All the basic functionality was available in the desktop app that I needed - scheduled backups of internal and external media. The cost per terabyte is commendably low and was the initial reason I tested iDrive. Backups have worked as expected and I hope never to have to use the recovery service for anything other than testing purposes. Upload speeds are limited by my bandwidth and I would definitely use the mail-in Express service if the UK shipping charges were more reasonable, or they had a UK-based upload service. It would hang for 12+ hours in "preparing file list" even when I reduced the backup set to a single file of only 1Kb in size. Keep in mind the old version worked perfectly for years on this machine. Many emails to and from iDrive Support and they could not get it to work.
IDRIVE REVIEWS 2014 UPGRADE
I wanted to upgrade to a modern plan and for that I had to upgrade to the current version of iDrive. Unfortunately it simply doesn't work any more. Nothing else out there touches it for features. I was always impressed with them keeping versions of files and retaining deleted files indefinitely.

I used to use a legacy version of iDrive on a legacy plan. I don't know what business manager thinks that makes sense. That means disputed credit charge transaction and a very expensive merchant chargeback, all for the sake of a couple of dollars. That's both mean-spirited and a very foolish business decision when I can clearly show by their own email chain that they never once provided a working product. When I cancelled my new account (because it never worked and they couldn't make it work) they would not fully refund me. I'm disappointed when any company uses deceptive tactics to make it difficult to cancel recurring billing.

When I cancelled my old account they still tried to charge me a subscription renewal for it - turns out they deliberately obscure the process needed to cancel so you think you've cancelled when you haven't. New owners? New development and support team? Their Support crew didn't seem very interested and I frequently had to prompt them into action. They used to be so good! I don't know what happened to them. If you need to share files bigger that 2GB, unfortunately IDrive won't be a solution for you unless you prepare your files by splitting them into smaller ones. Beware that there is a huge problem with IDrive related to file size limit. Hopefully, there will be some promotions before expiry which will allow existing users to prolong subscription under better price.I like to fly with my drone and record videos. Huge price increase after 1 year promo price period expires. )Hyper-VVMware (ESXi, VMs)Microsoft 365 (mailbox data)Cloud drive functionality additionally allows sharing files with other people if needed. There are also some backup features which I don't need but small businesses might benefit for:MS SQL Sever,MS Exchange Server, Exchange Brick level (Individual mailbox backup),MS Sharepoint Sever,System State (boot file, registry, active directory, system volume.
IDRIVE REVIEWS 2014 WINDOWS
I purchased it around BlackFriday with nice promo price for 10TB storage for 1 year.It has the best and the most user friendly Windows client application which allows to setup backup/restore files, to schedule backup tasks, it supports incremental backups, offers definition of folders which will be automatically synced with cloud storage and also to perform complete computer backup in cloud (this one I didn't try so far). Finally I don't have to worry about private files in case of HW failures.
